Liana M. Lugo, MD, grew up in Puerto Rico where she played tennis competitively prior to attending the State University of New York in Buffalo, New York. After graduating summa cum laude in biology, she completed her general surgery residency at the University at Buffalo where she then received the Thomas F. Frawley, MD Residency Research Fellowship Award. Following her general surgery residency, she pursued a Head and Neck Surgery Fellowship at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Lugo then completed Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with world-renowned plastic surgeon, Dr. Luis O. Vasconez. She has trained in all aspects of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Lugo has published research articles in the fields of Tissue Engineering and Plastic Surgery and presented her work at numerous national conferences. She is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) now known as The Aesthetic Society.
Dr. Lugo followed the career path of her parents, who are both doctors, to become a physician. When she isn’t caring for her patients, Dr. Lugo enjoys spending time with her husband Jason and her three children, Elena Sofia, James Alexander, and Maximilian Sebastian.
